in “Reconstructing Landscape Evolution of the NE Iranian Plateau, applying luminescence dating techniques to Pleistocene-Holocene sediments”.
The research project deals with the reconstruction of landscape evolution on the Iranian Plateau. Neotectonics, environmental and climatic changes have shaped the geomorphological development of the Plateau since the late Pleistocene, which will be reconstructed based on late Pleistocene-Holocene sediment archives and landforms (including playas and alluvial fans). The project includes a close cooperation with the University of Würzburg, the latter dealing mainly with GIS and remote sensing analysis, field mapping and sedimentological drill core recording and its analysis. The research project located at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (JLU), will primarily deal with the establishment of chronostratigraphies, applying luminescence dating techniques. For this purpose, sediment samples from different sediment archives and landforms will be taken during field work on the Iranian Plateau. Next to a modern and fully equipped luminescence laboratory, we offer an attractive working environment in a dynamic group of geoscientists and luminescence specialists, dealing with earth surface processes for reconstructing landscape evolution in the Quaternary.
